Have to put these thoughts to the ether before they dissapear into my mind (lots going on up there)
Through luck, life, circumstance, and pure effort I managed to round up a very good group of mentors in my life through the years. As I think about how things are going with work and the successes and failures of those around me I can think of one unlikely mentor (anyone that knows both of us knows we are oil and water). Nevertheless this person has truly changed how I do things in my life, in a very positive and big way.
The fruit of it all is a conversation not so long ago with said mentor... wherein he pointed out a few simple statements (excitedly) that continue to circle through my brain:
"They asked me why I wouldnt hang out, I said it's because they dont know how to make money"
"you see... buying $100 bills for $100 and selling them for $50 doesnt make sense, you have to buy $100 bills for $10 and sell them for $80"
"Thats what I do... I make money"
while it may seem greedy to those who dont know said mentor, nor the situation behind it I want to point something out....
This mentor taught me something very very special, and that is how to hold, control, and use ones inner drive! This person has a special talent and gift as it relates to liquidation or buying things at pennies on the dollar and selling it at pennies on a dollar for a profit (everyone wins lol). He's the guru of it, and without going into detail while it may seem all business he is more heart than most know (said mentor paid for me to see another mentor off in the past, big heart!).
The point to take to task here is drive though, he is driven *and* has taken steps to understand and know his gift and skills. So should we all go through such steps! In my career as an IT consultant I can honestly say I am not a huge fan of technology and computers, my skill and gift is that I make things work and do not give up. Quite simply... "I make things work". This is my calling and what I am driven to do.
So now am I driven to this wonderful hobby of examining plankters and snails... studying marine biology in the basement is not an easy task and I am far from posessing the proper skills, training, and equipment.
I make things work! This is what I do.
This is what I know how to do
This is what I am driven to do
And the bumps along the road, the trials, the tribulations, the skeptics, the support, the successes, and the failures... tomorrow.....
I will make things work, this is what I do.
so- dear readers (all three of you) take heed... I am driven much like my many mentors... I am lucky.... as I have pushed to find the right mentors... I will be marginally successful... because I am driven to simply make things work... I cannot quit, because I have nothing better to do... I will take my lumps... because they are a sign of experience, I will see you tomorrow... because I have much more to do.
I am driven
That is all.
